FAUN

The origin of the company Faun goes back to the foundation of a casting workshop by Justus Christian Braun in Nuremberg in the year 1845. During World War I, lorries were produced for the German imperial army. In 1918, the fusion with the vehicle factory Ansbach took place. From that the Fahrzeugfabriken Ansbach und Nürnberg (vehicle factories Ansbach and Nuremberg) arose, briefly called FAUN. In the 1920s, FAUN developed public utilities vehicles among other things. In the 1930s, the FAUN works in Nuremberg manufactured lorries from 1.5 ton to 14.7 tons payload and wheeled tractors, which were manufactured in modest numbers of items. Beside the Einheits-Diesel, heavy lorries of the 9 tons class were manufactured as tank transporters and heavy wheeled tractors were produced for the Wehrmacht.
Sadly, the photographic archives of FAUN were destroyed by a bomb attack. Therefore the relevant literature is only partially helpful. Additionally, FAUN made only small series of commercial vehicles. Some types were made for several years and with many modifications. For these reasons, an accurate identification of the types is nearly impossible apart from a few exceptions.
