The leichter Meßtruppkraftwagen - light survey party motor vehicle - (Kfz. 3), abbreviated l. Meßtr. Kw. (Kfz. 3), differed only marginally from an l. gl. Pkw. (Kfz. 1). The additional survey equipment was stored in an equipment box and on the forward mudguards. Note the measuring equipment on the left mudguard on the illustrated vehicle. Until now, the Kfz. 3 based on the l. Pkw. (o) - light passenger car (commercial) - could only be proven on the chassis of the Hanomag Type 4/23 PS resp. Garant.

In this photo one can see the right side of the l. Meßtr. Kw. (Kfz. 3) based on the Hanomag Type 4/23 PS resp. Garant. The additional mountings on the right mudguard and the equipment box arranged on the right side are clearly visible.

The l. Meßtr. Kw. (Kfz. 3) based on the Einheitsfahrgestell I für l. Pkw. - standard chassis I for light passenger cars -, Einheitsfahrgestell I für l. Pkw. Typ 40 - standard chassis I for light passenger cars type 40 -, m. Pkw. (o) - medium passenger car (commercial) Mercedes-Benz Type 170 VK and l. Pkw. Typ K 1 - light passenger car type K 1 - VW Typ 82 could not be differentiated from an l. gl. Pkw. (Kfz. 1), outwardly. The whole survey equipment was stored inside of the vehicle so that no additional mountings for equipment were needed on the outside. (Image from D 600)

In the case of the VW type 82, the equipment box was located behind the rear seat bench. It was accessible from above. According to the usage, different equipment sets were carried along. (Image from D 298/5)
