Commercial cross-country lorries with a dead weight of up to 6,000 kg and a payload of up to 2,500 kg were classified as mittlerer geländegängiger Lastkraftwagen, offen (o) - medium cross-country lorry, open (commercial), abbreviated m. gl. Lkw., off. (o). The key factor was the payload. The corresponding vehicles from Büssing-NAG, Krupp, Henschel and Daimler-Benz partly exceeded these specifications. Nevertheless, they were classified as m. gl. Lkw., off. (o).

Also the all wheel driven 3 ton lorries of the Schell-Plan were classified as m. gl. Lkw., off. (o). As en example, the Opel Blitz 3,6-6700 A had a dead weight of 3,350 kg and a payload of 3,100 kg. In late 1943, this classification system was replaced by a much simpler system.
