VW Type 62

Starting in 1938, first attempts were made to adopt the KdF. Wagen to militar use. In the same year, the VW type 62 was presented. It still had the round shape of the KdF. Wagen but had a canvas top and canvas doors. In June 1939, a further prototype of the type 62 followed. It had a much more angular shape. In September and October 1939, two further prototypes were made. They had doors made of sheet-metal and were very similar to the later production model, the VW type 82. The illustrated vehicle is most probably one of these later prototypes.
