Stoewer R 180 Special / R 200 Special / Type 40

Some of the l. gl. Pkw. were manufactured for civilian users. The Wehrmacht had no vehicles with closed superstructures. Most probably, the Stoewer emblem was used on civilian vehicles exclusively. Note the red square for civilian vehicles on the number plate of the Provinz Brandenburg. The types R 180 Special and R 200 Special differed by the used engines. The four-wheel steering was cancelled in the case of the Type 40.

The same vehicle now seen from the rear. In this case, the photo was made in the rear area of the east front in summer 1941. Most probably, this vehicle belonged to a civil governmental authority which had strategic tasks in the occupied territories.
