The 5 tons lorry MAN type M 1 was manufactured beginning in 1937. It had disk rims instead of the Simplex-rims of the similar but larger MAN type F4 / F 5. Compared to the type F 4 / F 5, the headlights were placed more to the outside of the bumper.

The additional louvres beneath the removable engine cover plates of the engine bonnet were arranged in a different way compared to the MAN type F 4 / F 5. Later, all produced MAN types received a modernised driver’s cab - like it can be seen on this MAN type M 1 which had an improvised box body.
