The Lorraine 37 L was developed as armoured supply vehicle as the successor of the Renault UE. From 1939 to 1940, about 480 vehicles were finished. About 300 vehicles of this type were - like the illustrated vehicle - captured by the Wehrmacht.
At first, some of these vehicles were prepared as towing vehicles for guns. Beginning in 1942, the Lorraine 37 L were used for the production of self propelled gun carriages like the Marder I.
