Originally, the Entgiftungspflug 41 – decontamination plough 41 – should be used to make ruts of 1 to 1.2 m depth through contaminated terrain so that soldiers could cross this terrain safely. Officially, the Entgiftungspflug 41 was introduced with the A.H.M. 1941, Blatt 27 from 7th November 1941, No. 1084.(Photo: German federal archive via Wikimedia Commons; License: Creative Commons BY-SA-3.0-gb)

During war, the ploughs did not have to be used in the intended purpose. So they were later used to support trenching on the east front. The m. Entgiftungskraftwagen (Sd. Kfz. 11/2) was provided as towing vehicle. In this case, it was a m. Sprühkraftwagen (Sd. Kfz. 11/3) (Bauart 39).
