STZ-NATI-1TA / SKhTZ-NATI-1TA resp. STZ-3

The STZ-NATI-1TA (STZ) resp. SKhTZ-NATI-1TA (KhTZ) was manufactured as agricultural crawler tractor. Vehicles delivered to the Red Army were designated STZ-3. It could reach a top speed of 20 km/h. This STZ-3 was used by a Wehrmacht unit as towing vehicle for a heavy 15 cm schwere Feldhaubitze 18.

Especially the wheeled vehicles – which were not constructed for off-road service - were not up to the demands of the east front. So captured Soviet tracked-tractors were often assigned to supply columns as towing vehicles. This STZ-3 towed an older Mercedes-Benz L 6500. Note the original side plates of the engine bonnet. Theses were often removed during warm weather periods for better cooling and often got lost.
