The AEC O 853 Matador was introduced as a towing vehicle for guns. Because of its favourable characteristics it was later used for many other tasks, too. It was propelled by a 95 HP, 7.7 litres diesel engine and it had all-wheel drive. A cable winch was available, too. This AEC Matador with the later driver’s cab variant was used by a unit of the Luftwaffe.
