The Magirus type series M 37 / 40 / 45 / 50 for 3.7 to 5 tons payload was manufactured beginning in 1933. The design was changed several times. An exact identification is not possible because one of the soldiers is hiding the louvres. Most probably it is a vehicle built around 1936.

In the course of time the type designation got an additional a and later a b. Probably this was caused by the change from Magirus to Deutz diesel engines and other modifications. This lorry is most probably a Magirus M 50 b photographed during the change of a wheel.

Caused by the modified chassis, the engine and the driver’s cab were constructed noticeable higher on later models. This type series was also made for the Wehrmacht. In this photo one can see such a lorry with the open Einheitsführerhaus of the Wehrmacht.
