The MAN Type Z 1 for a payload of 3 tons was made from 1933 to 1937. It differed from the similar MAN Type D 1 by the larger gap between the width indicators and the headlights. In addition, the headlights were mounted on lower supporters.

This MAN Type Z 1 is the final production model with a one piece windshield. The chassis frame was cranked over the rear axle so it could also be used for the production of omnibusses without changes. The successor model MAN Z 2 was made beginning in 1937. It had increased payload, a stronger engine and a new radiator grille.
