To simplify production and to manage new experiences made in the past campaigns, the widely simplified D model of the m. SPW (Sd. Kfz. 251) entered production in July 1943. This model had a widely simplified armoured superstructure. Most probably, more than 11,200 exemplars of the D model were made until the end of war.
