This interesting personnel carrier is most probably a formerly vehicle of a barracked state police unit. In the period of rearmament, those barracked police units were integrated into the Wehmacht. So the Wehrmacht could take over such vehicles.

The vehicle was most probably based on a Mercedes-Benz N 46 low floor chassis which was manufactured from 1928 to 1930. The L 45 lorry and the N 46 were replaced by the L 2500 in 1930.

This formerly police personnel carrier based on the Mercedes-Benz N 46 chassis had a noticeably simpler constructed rear superstructure than the vehicle shown above. It was used by Legion Condor.
