4,900 exemplars of the Mercedes-Benz type L 1500 A were manufactured. But only a few chassis were completed as lorry. Most of these chassis were used to make personnel carriers. These vehicles were extremely durable.
The Mercedes Benz types L 1500 A and L 1500 S can easily be differentiated from the predecessor models by the design of the front section. The frame of the chassis was visible below the radiator grille on the predecessor model L 1500 but the radiator grille of the L 1500 S/A reached over the bumper and covered the frame of the chassis.
