The Wanderer W 11 12/60 PS was introduced in 1935. Technically, it was based on the predecessor model Wanderer W 11 10/50 PS (2.5 litres) but it had a stronger 3 litres engine and a changed wheelbase. Until early 1937, both types were produced at the same time. The first production model of the Wanderer W 11 12/60 PS (3 litres) was made until early 1937. It had round front mudguards but no doors.

Most probably, the first production model of the Wanderer W 11 12/60 PS (3 litres) was made exclusively as Kfz. 15 with a large stowing box at the rear. The wading depth - which was specified as 55 cm – was remarkable. The illustrated vehicle belonged to Aufklärungs-Abteilung 46 of 46. Infanterie Division.

After a production downtime in 1937, production of the second serial model of the Wanderer W 11 12/60 PS (3 litres) started late in 1937. This model was manufactured until 1941 which for sure speaks for the quality of the Wanderer W 11 Kübelwagen. This model finally had doors. Most probably, only Kübelwagen with four seats were made.
