René Gillet developed the model K1 for the French army in the early 1930s. It was procured from about 1935 to 1937. Changes in the requirements led to the develpment of the René Gillet G1 with simplified chassis. The G1 was procured from 1937 to 1940. Both types were propelled by a 750 ccm engine with an output of 14.6 HP, which was throttled to 10 HP in the case of the G1. Outwardly, the both models are hard to differentiate.
