Tatra

The Tatra-works arose from the fusion of the Nesselsdorfer-Wagenbau-Fabriks-Gesellschaft with the Waggonfabrik Ringhoffer AG in Prague-Smichow. After the decay of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy, these works were located in the new created state Czechoslovakia. They got their name from the highest mountains of Czechoslovakia - the Tatra Mountains. Since 1920, the vehicles carried the name Tatra, already. Beside passenger cars lorries were manufactured. The Wehrmacht took over a part of the vehicles manufactured for the Czechoslovakian armed forces. The production was maintained at least partially under German direction.
