Development of the Saurer RR started in 1935. The experiences made with the trial vehicle Saurer RR 6 led to the Saurer RR 7 in 1937. After the Anschluss of Austria in 1938, five trial vehicles and fifteen serial vehicles of the Saurer RR 7 were available. The illustrated vehicle is most probably one of the five trial vehicles of the Saurer RR 7.
