Gräf & Stift

The Austrian company Gräf & Stift was founded by the brothers Franz, Heinrich and Carl Gräf and the investor Wilhelm Stift in 1904. At the beginning, luxurious passenger cars were manufactured, later also buses and lorries. The production of the 2, 3 and 5 ton lorries which were manufactured during World War I was continued after the war. Beginning in 1926, delivery vans with a payload of 2 to 2.5 tons – beginning in 1930 also with 1.5 ton - were manufactured, too. Beginning in 1936, diesel engines of Daimler Benz were used. The production of passenger cars was discontinued in 1938 due to the Schell-Plan. During World War II, mainly lorries with a payload of 4.5 tons and buses were manufactured. In addition, Gräf & Stift manufactured circa 600 exemplars of the Steyr RSO.
