Already in May 1943, Alkett received a contract to mount a 38 cm Raketenwerfer 61 onto the chassis of the Tiger I. The prototype could be presented in front of Hitler in October 1943. The first three serial vehicles were manufactured in August 1944 based on reworked chassis. Ten vehicles followed in September and the last five were finished in December 1944.
