When German forces occupied Czechia in 1939, they found a new battle tank (LT Vz 38) which was ready for the start of serial production. Because the vehicle proved to be usefull, CKD received a contract for the production of 100 vehicles which was now designated Panzerkampfwagen 38 (t) in April 1939. The first 57 vehicles alreday saw service during the Polish campaign.

Altogether 1,414 Panzerkampfwagen 38 (t) of the versions A to G and S were manufactured from April 1939 to June 1942. 32 vehicles were handed over to the Slovakian army. Beginning in mid 1942, the chassis was used for several developments of self propelled guns etc.
