About 25 exemplars of a self propelled 8.8 cm Flak 18 were converted by Krupp based on DB 9 chassis in the years 1939/40. These were used by 1. Kompanie of Panzerjäger Abteilung 8 during the campaign in the west.

These vehicles were later also used during the campaign against the Soviet Union. There, the unit was renamed to Panzerjäger Kompanie 601. In August 1942, the unit was again renamed. Now it was 3. Kompanie of Panzerjäger Abteilung 559 (Sfl). The last vehicles were lost in March 1943.
