In 1939, Krupp received a contract for the development of a hevy self propelled gun for the destruction of bunkers. Krupp created a self propelled carrier armed with the 10.5 cm K. 18 based on the own Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. D. Two prototypes were finished until January 1941.

Both trial vehicles were assigned to Panzerjäger-Abteilung 521 for troop trials. Several shortcomings were detected during service. Already in late summer 1941, one vehicle was destroyed by an explosion. The second vehicle was sent back to Germany for overhauling in October 1941. In early 1942 it was again assigned to Panzerjäger-Abteilung 521. Most probably in November 1942 this vehicle was captured by Soviet forces. One photo came to surface which illustrates the captured vehicle with a light winter camouflage finish and an impressive kill-balance on the gun tube.
