Outwardly, the mittlerer Schützenpanzerwagen (Pi) - medium armoured personnel carrier (engineer) - (Sd. Kfz. 251/5) could not be differentiated from s standard mittlerer Schützenpanzerwagen (Sd. Kfz. 251/1). In the case of this variant, the right rear bench was replaced by a equipment compartment for engineer equipment.
