Ford Maultier + 3,7cm Flak 37, Hoppe

Nearly 15,000 exemplars of the Gleisketten Lastkraftwagen 2t, offen (Maultier) (Sd. Kfz. 3b) - crawler tracked lorry 2 ton, open (mule) (Sd. Kfz. 3b) - of the make Ford V 3000 S/SSM were made. Consciously, the technology of the Maultier was held more simply than the technology of the other half track vehicles. The Maultier was steered by its front wheels but while driving through closer curves, the driver had to slow down one side of the track drive assembly using steering arms, manually.

The Ford Maultier on the right side is an early model with all steel driver's cab and round mudguards. The vehicle on the left side is a later model with the Holzfahrerhaus - wooden driver’s cab-  and flat mudguards.

This Ford Maultier with 2 cm Flak 38 is hard to identify under the heavy foliage. This heavy camouflage was necessary due to the overwhelming air superiority of the Allies in the year 1944. The upper part of the driver’s cab seems to have been removed in the case of the illustrated vehicle.
