The kleines Kettenkraftrad - small tracked motorcycle - (Sd. Kfz. 2), abbreviated kl. Kett. Krad. (Sd. Kfz. 2),  had excellent cross-country mobility. Although it was developed for the mountain troops, the kl. Kettenkrad was used in many other units, later. It became an indispensable transportation vehicle during the mud period on the east front.

Cross country drives with strong side inclination should be avoided because the kl. Kettenkrad was somewhat top-heavy. Weather protection for the crew was not available.

Approximately 9,000 exemplars of the kl. Kettenkrad were manufactured from 1941 to 1945. Primarily, they were used as transportation vehicle with a small one-axle trailer Sd. Ah. 1. The illustrated Kettenkrad is a late production model which can be identified by the closed armrests.
