The Panzerfunkwagen – armoured radio vehicle – (Sd. Kfz. 263) (8-Rad) was made from early 1937 to January 1943. It was more an armoured radio station than a scout car. It was not used by reconnaissance units, exclusively. Signals units and higher staffs had such vehicles, too. Vehicles of the first series are identifiable by the vision ports of the older type. The photo was made in Larissa in May 1941.

Panzerfunkwagen (Sd. Kfz. 263) (8-Rad) of the third, fourth and fifth series can not be differentiated, outwardly. The last 51 vehicles, which were made based on chassis of the fourth and fifth series, had the armoured superstructure of the third series. A radio mast was installed behind the large superstructure which could be elevated to a high of 9 meters. For self-defence, the crew of five men had one MG 34 as main weapon.
