Ausführung G

Serial production of the Ausführung G of the vehicle now designated Sturmgeschütz III für 7,5 cm Sturmkanone 40 - assault gun III for 7.5 cm assault gun 40 - (L/48) (Sd. Kfz. 141/1) was started in December 1942. The same changed 8. Serie Z.W. chassis was used which was first used for the Ausführung F8. The whole armoured superstructure was redesigned and enlarged. Until April 1945, altogether 7,775 vehicles of the Ausführung G were manufactured. During the production period, numerous changes and improvements were introduced. For example, an armoured shield for a machine gun, a cast Topfblende for the main gun, armoured skirts, Zimmerit and organic 80 mm thick frontal armour were introduced.
