From July 1940 to May 1941, 531 exemplars of the Ausführung F (5. Serie Z.W.) and Ausführung G (6. Serie Z.W.) were ex factory armed with the stronger 5 cm Kw.K. L/42. These were followed by about 286 vehicles of the Ausführung H (7. Serie Z.W.) from October until around April 1941. This Ausführung had additional armour, broarder tracks and newly designed track drive assembly components as standard. Already in 1940, vehicles armed with the 3,7 cm Kw.K. were converted to the new 5 cm Kw.K. L/42. Some vehicles also received the new, strengthened track drive assembly parts and additional armour. In 1940, 53 vehicles were converted followed by 285 in 1941 and 85 in 1942. The last vehicle was converted in 1943.

The frontal armour of the Ausführung J (8. Serie Z.W.) was organically strengthened to 50 mm. As a result, a new machine gun ball mount, a new drivers visor and new armoured covers for the ventilation of the steering brakes had to be designed. Simple towing eyes were created by lengthening of the side armour plates of the hull to replace the complex towing hooks. With the Ausführung J, the armoured hull had received its final design. From March 1941 to May 1942, altogether 1,602 vehicles of this model were made.
