From June 1942 to July 1943, 531 vehicles of the 7,5 cm Pak 40/2 auf Gw. II Marder II (Sd. Kfz. 131) were made. Further 75 vehicles were converted based on older Panzerkampfwagen II chassis beginning in July 1943. The combination of the proven chassis of the Panzerkampfwagen II with the effective 7,5 cm Pak 40 resulted in a powerful self propelled anti tank gun. The Marder II - marten II - had a crew of three. 37 rounds were available for the main gun in special mountings. Most often, the crews stored as much ammunition as possible. Both photos were made at Panzerjäger-Abteilung 561 (Heerestruppe). (Photo: German federal archive via Wikimedia Commons; License: Creative Commons BY-SA-3.0-gb)
