The Beobachtungskraftwagen - observation motor vehicle - (Kfz. 76), abbreviated Beob. Kw. (Kfz. 76), had a crew of eight. The superstructur variant was at first developed on the chassis of the m. gl. Lkw. (o) - medium cross-country lorry (commercial). This early variant could only be proven on the chassis of the Krupp L 3 H 63.

After the introduction of the Einheitfahrgestells für l. Lkw., the Beobachtungskraftwagen (Kfz. 76) was manufactured based on this chassis. The superstructure was similar to that of the Meßstellen- und Gerätekraftwagen (Kfz. 63). The equipment box at the rear was not longer than the superstructure of the standard Einheitsaufbau. Because of that, the tarpaulin reached up to the end of the superstructure.
