The Kraftzugspritze - motorised towing fire engine - (KzS 8), which was also designated Löschkraftwagen - fire engine - (Kfz. 345), abbreviated Ls. Kw. (Kfz. 345), according to D 600, was procured by the Luftwaffe based on the Opel Blitz 2,0-12 in larger numbers beginning in 1936. Few vehicles were made based on the Mercedes-Benz L 1500 F. Beginning in 1938, this type was exclusively made based on the larger Opel Blitz 2,5-35 chassis.
In 1943, the designations of the fire fighting vehicles were reorganised by the RLM. The Kfz. 345 number was deleted. The KzS 8 was now designated Löschfahrzeug LF 8.
